FULL Distribution
Volunteers distributing food to children at an event.

SAN DIEGO & NEARBY ONLY - Help feed children facing food insecurity by operating a food drive in your community! Collect nonperishables like canned goods, pastas, cereals, rice, nut butters, etc. and we will come to you to pick them up!

You can approach school administration to start a collection at your school, talk to coworkers to round up donations at work, or ask a local store manager if you can put a donation bin by the register! We'll be happy to provide flyers or help you find other materials you may need.

All donations will be given to families with children receiving subsidized federal nutrition plans from their school. These groceries will relieve them of the extra burden they face during school holidays, like Winter Break, when they are not receiving free/reduced breakfasts and lunches. You can learn more about our mission and past work on our Facebook page (The FULL Project).

Running a food drive is a great opportunity to impact the community and it also can teach leadership skills to children, who gain a sense of responsibility from managing their own project. Whether you end up collecting 10 items or 100, your time and effort will be greatly appreciated by us and the families we serve. Please feel free to contact me with questions about our organization or how to start your own drive!

Mission Statement

Alleviate food insecurity during major breaks amongst San Diego children reliant on free/reduced school breakfast and lunch programs.

Description

FULL is a teen-led organization formed under Whatever It Takes (WIT), a national social entrepreneurship course for high school students. Currently in its fifth year running, FULL has been created, developed, and expanded by San Diego youth with a desire to solve the major problem of food insecurity amongst children during breaks. We work with local elementary school staff where a majority of the students qualify for the free/reduced school meal programs to identify families most in need of our support. These families are invited to one of our 4 annual distribution events where they "shop" through a selection of food items, taking home full bags of groceries that will sustain them throughout the break. The food items are purchased with individual monetary donations (always appreciated!) and also received in-kind by local food companies who believe in our cause. We believe in service with a smile and are always looking for new ways to get the community involved in solving this major issue. Thank you for supporting FULL- full bags, full bellies.
