How it works:

Workforce Warriors program volunteers are asked to teach classes and workshops that will be attended by young people (ages 16-24) who access resources through HomePlate Youth Services. These classes will teach a variety of job related skills, ranging from punctuality to customer service. In addition to facilitating classes, volunteers can also host job shadows, and site tours of their offices.

The goal of these activities is to show youth first-hand what it takes to be successful in the world of employment.

How to help:

Volunteers are asked to be at least 21 years of age, and have experience in the work force. Prior to hosting a workshop or site tour, all volunteers must attend an orientation session, and work with Home Plate’s Employment Coordinator to develop learning activities that are engaging, and appropriate for youth ages 16-24.

About HomePlate Youth Services: HomePlate supports the positive development of young people experiencing homelessness or housing instability through community building, education, access to services and resources, and youth empowerment. HomePlate envisions communities where homelessness is a short-term circumstance, not a long term or chronic condition, and youth are supported in their communities. HomePlate honors each youth that comes into our awareness by offering servant hospitality, open and honest communication, respect for the place they are on life's journey, and compassion for the burdens they carry. We will treat each youth and each other with respect, caring, and honesty.
