** Rescheduled to 12/2!
Maymont’s Japanese Garden is a favorite place for many Richmonders, but caring for the garden is quite a task. Leaf clean-up in the garden is a project that can take weeks for our horticulture staff and regular volunteers. Imagine how much ground we can cover if we come together for one great morning!
*Please note, this project is Bring-Your-Own-Rake!

Maymont was the 100-acre Victorian country estate of Major James H. and Sallie May Dooley. The Dooleys completed their opulent mansion in 1893 and spent the next three decades creating the gardens, landscapes and outbuildings you see here today. Upon Mrs. Dooley's death in 1925, Maymont was bequeathed to the City of Richmond . Attractions for visitors added over the years include the Nature Center, Native Virginia Wildlife Exhibits, Children's Farm and Carriage Collection. Since 1975, Maymont has been maintained and operated by the private non-profit Maymont Foundation.
