Board members who enjoy fundraising and making a difference for the public library are needed to serve a three year term with the Santa Maria Public Library Foundation, a non-profit organization that fund raises for all library locations in the Santa Maria Public Library system including Cuyama, Guadalupe, Los Alamos, Orcutt, and Santa Maria.
The Foundation Board meets every other month on the second Friday from 11 am to noon to discuss projects and plan the annual fundraiser. Upcoming meeting dates are Friday, October 14 at 11 a.m. and every other Friday in Dec, Feb, April, June, Aug, Oct. etc.
The Foundation's main goal is to raise funds to support the free afterschool homework help centers held in our libraries. To date, the Foundation has funded Chromebooks, and charging stations as well as Brainfuse, a live, one on one tutoring service for student use daily 1 to 10 p.m. with a library card. The Foundation also organizes an annual Cowboy Poetry event during the Santa Maria Rodeo season.
We need dedicated volunteers who will attend all board meetings and actively participate in fundraising by helping plan creative programs, and organize silent auctions.
