Options for Community Living Inc. is a not-for-profit organization serving Long Islanders recovering from mental illness, and other chronic health conditions. The agency offers residential program participants an opportunity to learn horticultural skills through volunteering at its greenhouse in Medford. During the winter months the volunteers focus on holiday craft making. A full-time horticulturist oversees the greenhouse and works with residents to develop horticultural knowledge, craft making skills, and skills that promote independence and job readiness.
The greenhouse is open to volunteers Monday - Friday between 10am and 2pm. The agency would welcome the assistance of a community volunteer to help maintain the greenhouse, plants, planting beds, and to assist some resident volunteers in accompllishing tasks. Hours are flexible between 9am and 4pm.
