About Time In Children's Arts Initiative

Since its founding in 2006, The Time In Children’s Arts Initiative has transformed the lives and vistas of nearly 2000 of the city’s youngest and most disadvantaged public school children. An award-winning arts intervention for children from chronically impoverished communities, Time In joyfully engages opera, hands-on art, museum visits, gallery hops, intensive language and literary texts every week - as part of the normal school day, yet outside of school - for underserved elementary school children from Harlem and the South Bronx. Collaborating uniquely with under-resourced Title 1 schools, Time In ensures unprecedented access to the highest quality of educational and creative environments, providing the tools and support that at-risk children need to flourish, thrive and hope. In the Harlem and South Bronx communities that we currently serve, where debilitating academic, cultural and social inequities severely limit a child’s opportunities, Time In has brought transformative change to the lives of children, families, teachers and school administrators through its signature interdisciplinary literacy and arts-based learning platform.

Description

Founded in 2006, The Time In Children's Arts Initiative, is transforming the lives and educations of some of New York City's youngest and most underserved public elementary school children through an intellectually and aesthetically invigorating arts immersion that integrates opera, art, museum visits, gallery hops, language and literature into the normal school day. Fusing artistic, intellectual and socialĀ-emotional learning, Time In brings entire grades of children out of underserved classrooms and into the world of the contemporary arts every week, providing unprecedented access to the highest quality of artistic enrichment that New york City has to offer.

Regardless of their backgrounds, children are children: the world of imagination, creativity and fantasy is their most fertile ground. Time In acknowledges children's phenomenal gifts and innate abilities, ensuring innovative and substantive learning environments that stimulate, rather than stifle. Through its immersive arts intervention, Time In will continue to foster not only wonderfully conceptual thinkers, but perceptive and culturally sensitive individuals, each of whom will be poised to nourish our society in the days to come. Joyously engaging the arts to ensure underserved children the tools and support they deserve to flourish, thrive & hope .
