Stanford University Fights Cancer! - American Cancer Society Relay For Life
TEAM CAPTAIN
We are in need of volunteers to lead teams of family members, friends, coworkers, neighbors, anyone really who want to put an end co cancer.
Team Captains on of the most essential parts of our events. They recruit fellow team members, fundraise and help us spread awareness about the American Cancer Society. This opportunity is a for someone who is hands on, who wants more than a 1-day gig passing out water to runners and wants to find that cure for cancer. We invest in our team captains, providing them with materials and ideas to help them fundraise and American Cancer Society branded information. As the single largest fundraising event in the world, you get to be part of something pretty spectacular; it is truly a global movement. No experience necessary, however, a go-getter attitude is essential!
Strengths or Areas of Interest:
- Recruiting team mates to participate with you in the world’s largest fundraiser to end cancer
- Planning and organizing pre event fundraisers
- Setting a fundraising goal for your team and teammates to hit and exceed
- Encouraging your teammates to help achieve that fundraising goal through various fundraising events and soliciting donations from friends and family members
- Help raise awareness about the programs and services the American Cancer Society has to offer cancer patients and their families
- Relationship Oriented
- Passionate about cancer survivors & caregivers
- Great communication with your team mates and other Relay Representatives
So...at this point you may be wondering...WHAT IS RELAY FOR LIFE?
At Relay For Life events, communities across the globe come together to honor cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against a disease that has already taken too much. This community event is held on a local high school track or park and consists of inspiring ceremonies, activities and fun, and teams of friends, families, and co-workers coming together to finish the fight against cancer! The funds raised truly make a difference in the fight against cancer - just ask one of the nearly 14 million cancer survivors who will celebrate another birthday this year!
Each Relay For Life event is special to its community, but the movement's true power lies in the combined commitment of thousands of participants, volunteers, and supporters to help the American Cancer Society save lives from cancer.
Commitment requires regular check ins with your team lead and/or ACS staff member (in person, over the phone or via email) during Relay Season (January-August depending on event) and 2-3 hours a week of additional volunteer efforts. Schedule of work is up to you. For more information on Relay For Life and/or the American Cancer Society, please visit www.relayforlife.org/StanfordCA or contact Alicia Ruiz at alicia.ruiz@cancer.org

Mission Statement
The American Cancer Society is the nationwide community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer, through research, education, advocacy, and service.
Description
Relay For Life is a fun-filled event designed to celebrate cancer survivors and raise money to help the American Cancer Society save lives, help those who have been touched by cancer, and empower individuals to fight back against the disease.
During the Relay for Life, 10-20 people come together to form a team. The teams come from local businesses, churches, MOMs clubs, youth groups, etc and take turns walking/running laps around a high school track. The entrance fee per team is ONLY $150 and then each person fundraises at their own pace. Each team tries to keep at least one team member on the track at all times for a total of 24-hours.
WHY 24 HOURS??!
It iss crazy, but WonderfuL! The reason its 24 hours long is because cancer patients endure pain 24 hours a day and we can all give up 24 hours to celebrate them, their lives and the strides in finding a cure!! Cancer never sleeps.
There are Relay for Life events throughout CAlifornia, So go to www.relayforlife.org and find the one nearest YOU!! OH, don't forget to invite your favorite cancer survivors... we want to honor and pamper them at our events!
