PURPOSE:
Assist the Society’s Collections and Exhibitions department by physically ensuring artifacts are stored properly and records are correctly maintained with the overall goal of updating the Society’s collection on a consistent schedule.
DUTIES:
-Ensure physical placement of inventoried artifacts;
-Update PastPerfect records accordingly and on a regular basis;
-Upload/update a variety of backlogged items;
-Conduct limited research to assist in identifying unknown objects;
-Identify inventoried artifacts by a variety of means: i.e. sewing labels, when appropriate, etc.;
-Assist with other inventory projects, as needed.
SCHEDULING:
We ask that candidates are willing to commit to at least 6 months of service; and have the ability to provide a minimum of 8 hours per week (either in one full day or two half days).
There will be a two week trial period for this volunteer position. DHS will work with each volunteer to assign duties that are a best fit for our needs and each individual interest level.
PREFERRED SKILLS:
-Intermediate computer skills;
-Maintain the ability to follow precise directions;
-Ability to lift 15-20 pounds and comfort utilizing a step ladder;
-Ability to sit for long periods of time and walk our warehouse on occasion;
-Maintain the ability to work individually and as part a team environment.
TRAINING & SUPPORT:
Volunteers will receive on-the-job training in PastPerfect and inventory procedures from our Collections and Exhibitions department.
