Want to share your love of books with a Cambridge 2nd grader? Join Reading Buddies, a weekly reading program between Genzyme Corporation, Community Volunteers and the 2nd graders from a local elementary school near Central Square. Several slots are
now available on Tuesdays from 12:30 - 1:00 . Read aloud to one or two 2nd grade partners for 30 minutes in the classroom, alongside other adult "buddies," from October 2016 through January 2017. Managed by Cambridge School Volunteers, the Reading Buddies
program includes one training before you begin, the use of special read-aloud books selected by reading specialists, and an end-of-semester celebration with gift books for each student. The mandatory training will take place at the Fletcher Maynard Academy from 12:30 - 1:00 on Tuesday, October 18 . For additional information and to sign up, send an e-mail to csv@cpsd.us .

Cambridge School Volunteers (CSV) is an independent, non-profit organization supporting the academic and personal success of Cambridge public school children. CSV develops programs that match caring and competent adults with students of all needs and levels.

Description

Founded in 1966, Cambridge School Volunteers, Inc. is the agency responsible for the recruitment, training, placement, support, and evaluation of volunteers in the Cambridge Public Schools (CPS), -one high school, the Cambridge Rindge and Latin School; four upper schools for Grade 6-8, one dual-immersion Spanish/English K-8 school, and 11 elementary schools. CSV's mission is to contribute to the improvement of public education in Cambridge by developing meaningful roles for volunteers that emphatically respond to standards of educational excellence within each academic area. CSV also functions as the Cambridge Public Schools' designated liaison to the community on matters pertaining to volunteerism. In this role, CSV assists community agencies and constituencies with the planning and development of programs that effectively utilize volunteers and related community resources.
