Mission Statement
The Seattle Chapter of Amigos de las Américas trains teens and young adults from the greater Seattle area for full-immersion cultural exchange and community service for 6-8 weeks in Latin America. We seek to inspire and build young leaders through collaborative community development and immersion in cross-cultural experiences.
Description
Amigos volunteers live and work in communities, teach in schools and support a community-based initiative in a community in Latin America. AMIGOS is invited by partner agencies and host communities to provide educational activities in public health, enviornment, human rights and other topics. For over 50 years, the AMIGOS mission to provide leadership development opportunities for young people, promote community health for the people of Latin America, and encourage cross-cultural understanding among peoples of the Americas. We challenge our teen volunteers to get out of their element and appreciate the world from a cultural perspective profundly different from their own.
