Share Your Love of the Outdoors - Volunteer on Mount St. Helens

Become a Volcano Volunteer for Mount St. Helens!

The Mount St. Helens Institute’s Volcano Volunteers are some of the National Volcanic Monument’s greatest resources. We’re proud of and grateful for our volunteers who, since 2005, have logged thousands of hours with visitors from around the world. Our Volcano Volunteers greatly enhance visitors’ experiences at the volcano as they share this unique environment with them by recommending hikes & viewpoints, explaining the natural history of the mountain, discussing the best places to view wildlife, and more.

If you’d like to join this wonderful group of outdoors-oriented folks, consider becoming a Volcano Volunteer. You’ll be rewarded with new knowledge, stronger communication skills, and a chance to spend more time in one of the Pacific Northwest’s most interesting environments: a volcano! A background in science and natural history is helpful, but not required as we provide background training to all new volunteers.

Mission Statement

The Institute's mission is to promote stewardship, science and appreciation of volcanic landscapes of Mount St. Helens and the Pacific Northwest.

Description

The Mount St. Helens Institute connects people of all ages to Mount St. Helens and our natural world through educational programing designed to enrich visitors’ appreciation and understanding of the Pacific Northwest’s youngest and most active volcano.

We are proud of the many ways we connect people to the volcano they love, from our outdoor youth education programing hosted at the Mount St. Helens Science & Learning Center at Coldwater, to expert lead field seminars and guided exploration programs, to meaningful volunteer opportunities occurring all over Mount St. Helens and surrounding Gifford Pinchot National Forest.

We consider ourselves to be purveyors of passion; and our passion is Mount St. Helens.
