Abstract Expression program serves scholars with a passion for the arts through the form of drawing and painting. Scholars become acquainted to the life size drawings made by the great traditions of American art in rigorous courses that include sculpture and printmaking, to name a few. Scholars learn first-hand how artists execute ideas, starting with planning, implementing and processing the ideas.
Scholars learn first-hand how artists develop ideas, create art and build careers by visiting artists’ studios, and taking numerous day trips to the museums and galleries throughout the Tri state area, including the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Sculpture Garden, and Hirschhorn Museum, etc. Information sessions on applying to art school and preparing a portfolio The program emphasizes building a portfolio, developing skills and artistic growth.
Teaching Artist Job Description:
-Create a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment for children in an age-specific group (between 11 and 17 years old).
-Plan and lead 6 Week distinct arts-based Class over the course of the season.
-Follow the curriculum provided
-Support group on Class-wide field trips around the city.
-Work collaboratively with other teachers.
-Communicate with administrators.
-Contribute to Theme Day decoration, End of Summer Exhibit activities, and other large-scale activities.
