The 2018 hurricane season has been extraordinarily active in parts of the U.S., with Hurricane Florence currently impacting millions in the Carolinas. As this natural disaster unfolds, the staff here at VolunteerMatch is doing its part to ensure that, if you are in an affected community, you are prepared and safe. And if you are looking to help with disaster relief efforts, you know about the most effective ways to contribute.
As a volunteer you are a caregiver to the children in our shelter. Daily activities would be getting them up, bathed, dressed and ready for the day or getting them ready to go to bed depending on the shift you are working. We take them to Swedish medical for a head to toe exam checking for any communicable diseases like lice or scabies, documenting bruising. We take the children on field trips like to the Imagine Children's Museum and to local parks. We have fun with the children while they are with us. The children can stay with us up to 72 hours. Our shifts are 5-6 hour day shifts and and 10 hour overnight shifts. We ask that all our volunteers commit to one 5 hour shift per month for 12 months.
