Mission Fed Junior Achievement Finance Park

In JA Finance Park, middle and high school students are placed into ordinary real-life situations and equipped with the guidance and resources to establish and run a successful household. Students are assigned a profile which includes details about their family, job, and background, then will create and adhere to a personal financial budget. The classroom curriculum culminates in a hands-on tablet based (paperless) budgeting simulation at Mission Fed JA Finance Park.

Finance Park Description:

Our Finance Park simulation takes place here in our Mission Fed JA Finance Park facility located in Mission Valley. High School students are taught a curriculum on budgeting that culminates into a tablet based/experiential session where students are assigned a profile which includes details about their family, job, and background, then will create and adhere to a personal financial budget.

Volunteer Training/Roles:

Volunteers are trained on the simulation the morning of each event. Each volunteer is then assigned a group of students to work with during the 4+ hour simulation; answering simple life questions on budgeting and guiding their students through the simulation experience. Students will learn how to make critical life choices (applying for a mortgage, buying a car, securing insurance etc.) based on their profiles that they are assigned. The session starts in the morning, around 8:30-9am contingent upon scheduling, and ends at about 1:30p.
