About VIRGINIA DONKEY RESCUE

Location:

414 STONEWALL RD, CONCORD, VA 24538, US

Mission Statement

Our mission is to prevent donkey neglect, abuse, abandonment and to keep donkeys from ending up at auctions and kill pens in the State of Virginia.

Description

We address the issues that cause neglect, abuse, and abandonment in the first place by providing current and future donkey owners and welfare advocates with education, resources and referrals.

We build awareness through our outreach program including social media, attending and hosting events, and through partnerships with State and Local resources to provide education on donkey care.

We offer a safe alternative to auctions and kill pens through our rescue program. Here the donkeys receive the care and attention needed to rehabilitate them. Rehabilitation involves the donkeys physical wellbeing which may involve a refeeding program, and almost always veterinary, farrier, and dental care. Their psychological needs are met with positive interactions with humans and from other donkeys. And training or retraining means that the donkeys are ready to be adopted as pets into permanent, loving homes.
