Public Program at c3
Public program at c3 summer 2016 during the Portland Biennial exhibition.

Arts non-profit and space c3:initiative is seeking volunteers to assist staff in gallery and event operations.

Gallery attendants greet visitors in the gallery during open hours, Wednesday-Saturday, 12-6pm. During this time, attendants may work on quiet, independent work in the office as long as it does not impede with their ability to engage with visitors and be available for questions. Gallery attendants are often alone in the gallery.

Beyond gallery attending this fall, c3 hopes to build a strong volunteer core for support as we plan for and execute exciting programs beyond exhibition open hours! We'll need help with opening receptions, public programs, and other off site events. An orienation to get familiar with the exhibition and the space is required before starting on as a volunteer.

About this fall's exhibition:

Organic Encounters presents work from the 2016 c3:initiative and Pulp & Deckle Papermaking Residency artists Ellen George, Laura Foster, Tyler Peterson, and Ryan Woodring. Culminating from their experiences in the Pulp & Deckle studio, each artist utilized handmade paper as a medium to create new works that present ideas central to their art practice.

Organic Encounters considers the transformation of material to propel the medium of paper beyond its familiar uses. The exhibition brings together disparate works that are sculptural in form but conceptual in methodology. The results present themselves as commentary on the natural world, the unstable value of objects, the mutability of biological forms, and notions of memory that are dually fluid and tangible.

If you are interested in volunteering, please contact c3 Program Coordinator Alexis Roberto at alexis@c3initiative.org with your questions and availibility.

Mission Statement

c3:initiative’s (c3) mission is to connect creators and communities by fostering arts, healing and excellence through collaborative programs. c3 is dedicated to facilitating artistic exchange and developing educational opportunities by cultivating dialogue between diverse communities.

Description

c3:initiative is a non-profit arts orgnanization and artist-in-residence program located in the St. Johns neighborhood or Portland, OR.

c3:initiative supports the cultural community by inviting nationally and internationally recognized individuals immersed in a creative practice to collaborate with community groups or organizations and established cultural institutions to create a new work. The residency is designed to facilitate a collaborative process and bridge a gap between various entities. The program provides the resident with the space, time, resources and administrative support to create new work that emerges from meaningful connection with a community throughout the project’s creation. The residency is a long term, process-based, and artist-driven program that supports residents in the creation of a new work from conception to completion.

The c3:residency program infuses the arts and culture community with a diversity of creative minds from the national and international tapestry. It simultaneously enriches the community with work made collaboratively from within, crafted by meaningful connections and thoughtful dialogue.
