OVERVIEW

Uhuru Furniture & Collectibles is an economic development project of the African People's Education and Defense Fund (APEDF). APEDF is a 501c3 non-profit that defends the civil and human rights of the African community and addresses the disparities faced by the African community in education, health, health care and economic development. APEDF is building self-determination in the African community.

POSITION

Getting the word out about Uhuru’s work and mission is a large part of what has gone into making us a success over the past 32 years. We find that getting out in the community and getting feet on the ground is the best way of spreading the word about Uhuru. We are looking for an Onsite Outreach intern who can assist the Marketing Team in organizing and running successful outreach campaigns in the Bay Area.


TASKS

Under the supervision of the Marketing Team, you will:

  • Work with groups of 15-30 volunteers during outreach sessions

  • Oversee the distribution of advertising materials

  • Conduct onsite orientation sessions

  • Liaise and coordinate day-of activities with volunteer group leaders

  • Manage preparation and collection of all materials for distribution in advance

  • Prepare maps to coordinate distribution

  • Post outreach event updates on social media

  • Prepare report of the results of the outreach sessions

QUALIFICATIONS

  • We are looking for a people oriented person who is comfortable speaking in front of groups
  • Is organized, punctual, reliable and honest

  • Can work independently and is a creative problem solved

  • Have a strong passion for the APEDF mission (www.apedf.org), self-determination and economic development for the African community

  • Must have access to a car or the ability to easily travel throughout the Bay Area with materials

Description

Uhuru Furniture and Collectibles is a non-profit store that is a fundraiser for black community empowerment programs of APEDF. We receive a truck load of donated furniture and household items every day. This is a lively, popular Grand Lake area store staffed mostly by volunteers. When you volunteer at Uhuru Furniture, you not only contribute to the success of the store, you become part of a larger movement for peace through social justice. People shop at Uhuru Furniture for low priced, top quality items and to support crucial programs for social justice for African people.
