Dear Community Partner:

Are you a school nurse, eye care professional, community outreach worker, or parent volunteer looking to identify children with a vision problem? If so, Prevent Blindness Texas invites you to join us on Tuesday, October 25 to attend the Children’s Vision Screening Training, which will be focused on empowering community health educators, outreach workers, public health professionals, community or senior center program directors, school nurses, safety directors, or employers looking for an education and training on eye health and safety.

Young children with vision problems often do not know that the way they see the world is not the way everyone sees it. Yet, vision problems affect 1 in 20 preschoolers. They also affect 1 in 4 school children. Without early detection and treatment, children's vision problems can lead to permanent vision loss and learning difficulties. Only an eye doctor can diagnose and treat a vision problem, but screenings help find children who need a full eye exam. While it will not detect all vision-related problems, screening is a simple, non-diagnostic procedure that tells whether a child has a possible vision problem.

Join Prevent Blindness Texas for the Children's Vision Screening Training to learn how to identify children with a vision problem and connect children and their families to the programs and services they will need to success. To be eligible for the course, you must be a high school graduate or have a GED.

Date: Tuesday, October 25, 2016
Time: 9:00 am to 1:00 pm
Location: Prevent Blindness Texas, 3610 Fairmount Street, Dallas, TX 75219

Participants will receive a Children's Vision Screening Certification if they successfully meet specified training criteria. Certification is valid for five (5) years.
