EVkids is a non-profit that has been tutoring and mentoring youth in Dorchester & Roxbury since 1985. We pair college or young alum volunteers with an inner city youth from Boston for weekly one on one tutoring and mentorship. EVkids mission is to empower youth from Boston’s inner city with the skills and confidence needed to realize their potential. We also form a supportive community for our tutors with opportunities for reflection and professional skill development. Our tutoring sites are located at Harbor Point and at St. Christopher's Church off the JFK/UMASS red line stop in Dorchester and at the DeWitt Center in Roxbury. Tutors volunteer weekly on Tues., Wed., or Thurs. from 4-6pm. We need tutors make an initial one (academic) year commitment from the last week of Septemner to the first week of May.

Mission Statement
EVkids empowers youth from Boston’s inner city with the skills and confidence needed to realize their potential. We create a community of support with a school-year tutoring/mentoring program and a life-changing summer camp experience in the Green Mountains of Vermont.
Description
EVkids empowers inner-city Boston youth with the skills and confidence needed to realize their potential. EVkids helps low-income, academically vulnerable children and teens (grades 4-12) succeed in school and life by systematically strengthening core academic skills, organizational habits, and other life skills.
Since 2007, 100% of our high school seniors have graduated on time and gone on to college. We accomplish this by recruiting and training a motivated volunteer EVcorps of university students who provide one-on-one, multi-year, after-school tutoring and mentoring, closely supported by professional staff who provide family engagement and school advocacy.
By building a caring community of support, where success is expected and achievable together, we believe our EVkids and their EVcorps tutors will become integral parts of a more socially just, tolerant, and compassionate world.
Tutots make an initial committment of one academic year and tutor weekly from 4pm-5:45pm either on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday at our site in Dorchester. Volunteers must be able to tutor at one of these times.
