Proposition 56 will save lives and keep kids from smoking. It increases the tobacco tax by $2 per pack, with an equivalent increase on other tobacco products, including electronic cigarettes. Prop 56 works like a user fee, taxing tobacco to help pay for smoking prevention and healthcare. If you don’t smoke, you don’t pay.

Our only funded opposition is Big Tobacco, and they have already spent almost 50 Million$ on the No campaign. This will be a david v.Goliath effort, and The most important thing anyone can do right now is to help us continue to spread the word about the benefits of Prop. 56. The best way to do that is to join us at one of the phone banks across the state. For example, Your American Cancer Society office is hosting phone banks every Tuesday night from 5:30-8 pm at the new San Diego office in Mission Valley. We need your help to talk to as many voters as possible as soon as possible- and we provide training, support, food and fun! You can sign up here: Click on this link: San Diego

If you have friends and family who live in other parts of the state, here are the schedules for phone bank locations across Southern California: Riverside and San Bernardino ; and Orange County . In addition, there are other places where people can phone bank, including from home. Contact your local ACS Can staff partner in Southern California, Lynda Barbour at Lynda.barbour@cancer.org 619-682-7416 .
