Animal Rescue Konnection (ARK) is looking for someone in the Massachusetts or southern New Hampshire area with some animal rescue experience to assist us with dogs surrendered by owners. Our goal is to find the best possible match between dog and adopter to avoid dogs being returned.
As a caseworker you help owners safely re-home their dog to avoid a shelter or euthanasia. You oversee the re-homing efforts from start to finish: organize materials; be in regular email contact with owner; respond to inquiries; review applications; and coordinate with other volunteers who are available to support the process.
Owners are required to participate in the process: provide proof of rabies and a signed OS agreement form; provide dog biography, photos, and a video; call applicants; call references; set up meet n greets; and close the adoption.
You will receive informal training by shadowing one or two experienced caseworkers. We follow an established process and will provide you with all the materials you'll need. Caseworkers must have strong interpersonal skills, be organized, be proactive, and work independently for the most part (though support is available at all times). Computer, email, internet access, phone are required.
Work is conducted through email, and occasional phone calls. Volunteers must be available to check email often. Most of your time will be spent in the beginning of the re-homing process. The pace picks back up when inquiries and applications come in. Some dogs get lots of interest while others get little. Depending your time availability you will handle one or two dogs at a time.
When the dog is adopted, your work is done! ARK's post-adoption volunteer will follow up with the adopters and provide assistance or trainer should a concern arise.

Animal Rescue Konnection (ARK) bridges the gap between dogs in need and the organizations that can help them find new homes. We specialize in matching breeds that are hard to place due to discrimination and labeling with progressive shelters and rescues willing to take on the challenge of taking in these 'at risk’ dogs and giving them what they need to succeed. We are not a shelter. Rather, we are a networking organization enabling us to save more dogs’ lives by collaborating with existing rescues and shelters. We focus on at risk dogs that are behaving poorly in the shelter or holding facility and/or do not do well on their behavioral evaluation due to stress. Since our founding in May 2012, we have helped save more than 400 at risk dogs in need of transfer, by finding them a shelter or rescue and giving them a second chance at the life they deserve.

A small organization that achieves a lot because of the commitment, dedication, business, and common sense of a handful of volunteers.
Too many dogs were being euthanized under the guise of labels like 'unadoptable’ and 'not place-able’ without evaluating the dog as an individual, looking at the dog’s stresses, looking at the physical environment or enlisting a training regimen. We decided to do something about it.
We focus on helping dogs that are displaying behavior symptoms during their confinement. Why? Because, in our experience, these dogs manifest entirely differently in new environments, after they can de-stress from the trauma of being misplaced or with proven training regimens.
These dogs can be saved if only other shelters and rescues knew about them. Leveraging our vast connections in the rescue community, we fill a huge void collaborating between progressive shelters and rescues and dogs whose time up or were not doing well in their current environment.

REQUIREMENTS
- Flexible. Normally more time is required up-front to gather info and prepare networking material (about 5-7 hrs/wk). Following up and screening applications is periodic (about 2 -4 hrs/wk).
- Looking for positive, reliable, committed "do-ers" who work independently, stay in touch, and respond timely to emails. Follow-through, computer skills, and organizational skills needed. Knowledge of rescue world varies by position.
