The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Peninsula is an expanded learning time non-profit serving over 2300 K-12 students per year. Our mission is to provide low-income youth of our community with the opportunities that enable them to graduate ready to succeed in college or a career.
We are currently seeking volunteer tutors to support BGCP mentors during our Power Hour/Blended Learning class blocks. Power Hour/Blended Learning is a specific system aimed at helping children with completion and comprehension of homework assignments. Volunteers support a teacher in a classroom with a group of children from a specific grade, answering questions and explaining difficult concepts. The ultimate goal is to instill good study habits and inspire students to pursue further education in a fun and engaging manner.
Responsibilities:
- Be consistent in attendance
- Be flexible with students’ needs
- Work to ensure that students understand concepts and complete homework assignments
- Ask leading questions & check for understanding
- Be respectful to students and staff
- Collaborate with staff to ensure student success
Requirements:
- Commit to 1 hour a week for a 10 week period
- Online application & background check

Mission Statement
Our mission is to provide the low-income youth of our community with the opportunities they need to achieve school success
Description
The Boys and Girls Clubs of the Peninsula's vision is that all young people, if they work hard, can live fulfilling lives with a good education, a fair paying job, decent housing, and the ability to raise a family. We want kids' futures to depend more upon their own actions and less upon the circumstances into which they were born.
It's an incredible time to live in Silicon Valley. Many are enjoying unprecedented levels of growth and wealth. People from all over the world are striving to move here to participate in our culture of optimism and opportunity. At the same time, this prosperity isn't being felt by all, and too many young people are growing up disconnected from what makes our community so dynamic.
