WHO WE AREAs a 100% volunteer run non-profit, Food Connect aims to bridge the gap between surplus food and hunger by leveraging the latest technology, optimizing existing resources, and eliminating donation barriers; delivering food into the hands that need it most. Currently, our app is exclusively utilized in the greater Philadelphia area. It connects all individual participants involved in a donation (restaurant, delivery and shelter). We aim to improve efficiency and allow for data collection in a space which is overdue for an overhaul. All of this is an understatement. So you can understand why we need YOU.
WHO WE NEEDSince the recent unprecedented cooperation at the DNC, requests for access (and adaptation) of the app have become overwhelming, originating from as far as England and India. We hear them, which is why we’re asking you to join us. We need a team member who is tech savvy and passionate enough to get off the bench during this great time of civic evolution, starting right here in Philly. Our new intern will be responsible for directly supporting our founder, managing social media, data management, coordinating and drafting correspondence, dispatching, et cetera. Standard assistant gig, extraordinary leadership experience, and a chance to dive into the Philly startup scene.
Why We Need Each otherThis opportunity is mutual. We mean that. As an intern for Food Connect, you will never be treated like a minion and we would prefer you not treat us like an offscreen adult from Peanuts. We need someone who looks around at the world they were born into with a dash of disbelief, a whole heart full of empathy, and a fire that roars "NOT WHILE I’M HERE". Our mission, just like our commitment, must
be mutual. You can do your internship anywhere, why here? If you choose us, here’s what you will be doing this fall; (aside from standard duties mentioned above) you will be learning all about nonprofits as well as startup businesses with your new mentor, you will be walking through the incubator/accelerator process with our founder, helping to design the brand and voice, working heavily in partnership with the Mayor’s office and many other top community and startup organizations, learning about grants and funding, and (possibly) assisting on trips to further develop other cities.
