Afterschool STEM Program Volunteer

Out-of-School Time (OST) programs, like The ROCK Grounded afterschool program, provide an excellent opportunity for middle school kids to be exposed to STEM activities, careers, and role models.

We are (excitedly) planning a variety of STEM activities to be included as part of Grounded at all 3 afterschool locations. At this moment, there is an opportunity for college students, professionals, and retirees to volunteer ~3 hours a week to lead fun & engaging STEM activities using a favored Science & Math curriculum for 11-14 year old kids.

Mission Statement

The mission of the ROCK Center for Youth Development is to provide every youth with unconditional love, support, respect, a safe environment, guidance and a model of healthy behavior.

Description

The ROCK Center for Youth Developmnet, established in 2001, serves youth in the 6 th through 12 th grades in the greater Midland area. With the support of individuals, businesses, foundations and other non-profits across the area, ROCK offers quality programs and activities in a safe environment where youth can learn tools and skills to be a productive caring member of our community.

However, some of the most important work that is done at The ROCK has less to do with programs and events and more to do with developing real and trusting relationships between teens and adults. Almost daily members of The ROCK staff come alongside students in crisis and offer support, direction, genuine concern and love. Lives are impacted as we deal with teen pregnancies, anger, depression, crumbling families, loss of hope, peer pressure and bad choices. The ROCK provides reliable adult role models to whom these teens can turn whether in crisis or struggling to with the challenges they face in their day-to-day lives.

The ROCK strives to ensure that youth in our community have the hope, the vision, the confidence and the tools they need to be good stewards of their own lives.
