Youth of the Year Mentor

ORGANIZATION: Boys & Girls Club of Carson

The Youth of the Year (YOY) program recognizes Club members for their outstanding contributions to their family, school, community and Club, as well as personal challenges and obstacles these members have overcome.

The process to become the Youth of the Year for Boys & Girls Club of Carson is extensive and at times overwhelming for our members. In addition to their school and after school duties, the candidates have various requirements they must fulfill to be able to participate in the YOY program. Members must complete several essays, attend a speech class, develop a speech and deliver it at the YOY ceremony. Incorporating a mentorship component to the YOY program is an integral part of our member’s success.

The overall goal of the Youth of the Year mentorship component to provide members one-on-one to help expand their YOY package; this includes the essays, letters of recommendation and speech.

We will need Youth of the Year mentors for three sites:

- King Drew Medical Magnet High School

- Animo Locke High School

Carson High School
