Mission

To ensure that our nation’s military veterans receive the support, preparation, and skill-building necessary to successfully transition from the military to higher education at top-tier colleges and universities.

About the Volunteer Position

The Warrior-Scholar Project is seeking a motivated, resourceful and tech-savvy student to serve as our Social Community Manager. You will be responsible for strategizing, crafting and executing content for all of our platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. Applicants should have a strong level of experience with these channels, a demonstrated writing ability, organizational skills, the ability to work both as part of a team and solo, and creativity to spare.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Social Media

  • Update Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn accounts
  • Post weekly updates, news, and announcements in a timely manner using appropriate content
  • Plan weekly and monthly social media posts in advance
  • Perform research to find articles, stories, resources, or other content relevant to our primary audience base and post to Facebook and Twitter in a manner that invites conversation and interaction
  • Update Facebook and Twitter accounts with current and relevant photos, video, or other content from WSP activities and events
  • Grow WSP online social networks by increasing followers and interactions
  • Organize and archive digital images and videos on Google Drive
  • Develop photo albums on Facebook
  • Regularly observe the online activity of model organizations’ research and reports on "social media best practices"
  • Assist with edits to the website as needed
  • Complete other social media and digital media projects as assigned

Outreach Efforts & Office Operations

  • Conduct research and identify new possible outreach contacts from military bases, higher education institutions, veteran service organizations, and other relevant sources
  • Enter data into Google Drive/Salesforce
  • Disseminate info on WSP to outreach contacts via social media, e-mail, and phone
  • Research events/conferences beneficial for WSP outreach efforts (veteran resource fairs, VSO conferences, higher education events, etc.)
  • Help manage the WSP Alumni Ambassador Volunteer Program by contacting Alumni Ambassadors via social media, e-mail, and phone and track ambassador outreach efforts
  • Conduct mailings of outreach materials to Alumni Ambassadors as needed
  • Enter updates on ambassador progress and number of volunteer hours committed into Google Drive/Salesforce
  • Help coordinate ambassador events as needed
  • Help improve WSP’s database management system
  • Conduct data entry, assist with data analysis, and pull reports from Salesforce

Desired Experience and Background:

  • Creative self-starter who is comfortable with both taking initiative and working in collaboration
  • Detail oriented with strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong academic performer (submission of transcript may be requested)
  • Experience with Microsoft applications; experience with Photoshop and InDesign a plus
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and timelines
  • Strong commitment to serving the veteran community
  • Marketing, Business, or Communications majors preferred
Ability to volunteer at least 20 hours per week.
