Interested in applying to join our Board of Director’s team?! Come meet the current team members, including the founders, to learn about what we do, why we do it, and how we do it. We will wrap it up with a Q&A session to answer any questions you may have about the organization or current position openings.

Below is the description for the Development Director position. The 1-year term begins on 1/1/2017 with a limit of 5 consecutive terms. Please email for questions or interest in the position.

Position Description

In partnership with the Executive Director (ED), the Development Director will be responsible for developing and implementing a strategic fundraising plan to support the growth and sustainability of the organization.

Position and General Board Responsibilities

  • Work with the Treasurer and ED to develop and execute Urbanplay’s annual fundraising plan

  • Research grant and sponsorship opportunities that align with Urbanplay’s mission

  • Research, write and submit grant proposals, providing supporting documents and interim reports

  • Apply for a minimum of 1 grant per quarter

  • Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with major donors

  • Oversee organization of fundraising events and campaigns

  • Attend at least 1 community event per quarter, as well as all fundraising events

  • Participate in monthly board video calls and attend all quarterly board planning retreats

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the ED as they develop and implement Urbanplay’s strategic plan

  • Qualitatively and quantitatively evaluate the impact and effectiveness of current programs to ensure that Urbanplay is fulfilling its mission.

  • Review and approve Urbanplay’s annual budget, audit reports and material business decisions, ensuring that Urbanplay is compliant with all legal and fiduciary responsibilities

  • Assist in identifying and recruiting other Board Members as needed

  • Represent Urbanplay and act as an ambassador for the organization

  • Ensure Urbanplay’s commitment to a diverse board and staff reflective of the communities we serve


  • Must be at least 18 years of age

  • Pass a criminal background check

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field

  • 2-years of fundraising experience with an emphasis on special events and proven track record in successful grant writing

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

  • Ability to craft funding proposals in a clear and compelling manner

  • Strong understanding of budgets as they relate to proposals and grants

  • Leadership experience in business, education, or the nonprofit sector

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Bilingual is a plus.

  • Commitment to and understanding of Urbanplay’s beneficiaries, preferably based on experience

  • Be a team player with outstanding people skills for all ages

  • Able to take initiative and be independently productive with minimal supervision

  • Integrity, credibility, and a passion for improving the lives of Urbanplay’s beneficiaries
