ORGANIZATION: Minds Matter of Detroit

As a mentor for Minds Matter Detroit you will we paired with a sophomore high student to support/advise on all aspects of college prep-help them explore career paths, map out three-year plans, evaluate summer prep programs, narrow down on potential schools, and work on applications.

As a mentor you will support the students in:

  • Finding and applying to summer programs/college
  • Guided sessions to include but not limited to:
  • Personal Statemen
  • Networking
  • Public Speaking
  • Cyber Safety

Engage in networking and social activities:

  • Holiday parties
  • Volunteer appreciation events
  • After session happy hours
  • Meaningful experiences and lasting relationships with students

Minds Matter transforms the lives of accomplished high school students from low-income families by broadening their dreams and preparing them for college success.

Description

Minds Matter brings bright and motivated high school students together with dedicated mentors to help them achieve academic excellence, expand educational horizons and ultimately gain acceptance to college. This is accomplished in a 3-year program that includes 32 Saturday sessions (half academic and half mentoring) per year and 2 Summer program.

There are three program components that differentiate Minds Matter from other organizations: academic instruction, individualized mentoring support, and summer enrichment programs.
