Youth Ambassador Program is funded by the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and administered by Global Potential. YAP program builds relationships and creates networks among Haitian youth leaders, training youth in the concepts and practices of Social Entrepreneurship; introducing youth to leaders in nonprofit and change-making organizations in the US; and learning about US families, culture, geography, and socio-economic realities
YAP consists of three phases:
Phase 1, YAP Fellows participate in monthly workshops. These workshops are based on a 4-module curriculum of community service, leadership development, civic education and participatory democracy;
Phase 2, YAP Fellows participate in a 3-week immersive experience in the U.S., visiting New York City, Washington D.C.;
Phase 3, YAP Leaders are given both individual and group support and coaching for 7 months to develop projects that will impact their local communities, based on their passions and abilities.
Global Potential (GP) empowers youth and communities to energize each other through education, international service work and cultural exchange. GP is an 18-month transformative after-school + summer program that works with 500 youth a year. The GP program includes 16.5 months of workshops locally New York and 1.5 months of international cultural exchange in the Dominican Republic, Haiti, and Nicaragua.
The Youth Ambassador Program Associate is responsible for assisting the Program Coordinator with all YAP program related tasks that is logistics, coordination and operations of YAP.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Ensure that all files and data are organized properly
Input information of YAP participants into the database (salesforce & Google Drive)
Manage the Youth Ambassador Program Facebook pages and Google Drive
Make phone calls when needed to YAP partners and participants
Support in the recruitment of YAP Participants
Participate in the Monthly conference calls with the International Executive Councils
Translate Documents from English to Haitian Creole and vice versa.
Take notes and minutes during Conference calls, partner meetings, Youth monthly workshop
Follow up with tasks assigned to the YAP Youth
Update Youth, Staff and Partner Contact Information
Follow up with YAP participants
Help identifying new partners and communities
Update the YAP Timeline and summarize weekly meeting notes
Maintain support, confidentiality, and professionalism necessary to create a safe atmosphere of sharing, understanding, tolerance and mutual support.
Currently in High School; Seniors Prefered;
Must be able to commit for a minimum of 6 months, flexible schedule;
Must be able to speak and write Haitian Creole or French;
Proficiency in using social media platforms including Facebook, Google Hangout, Twitter and Instagram
Be familiar with Google Spreadsheets, Google Doc, Google Hangout, and Salesforce (or be willing to receive basic training for use of these systems);
Detailed oriented, responsible, organized, sociable with excellent communication skills;
Strong listening and communication skills;
Practical problem-solving skills and ability to suggest options and alternatives; and
- Sensitivity to persons of different educational, economic, cultural or ethnic backgrounds.
