Youth Ambassador Program is funded by the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, youth division; administered by Global Potential. YAP program builds relationships and creates networks among Haitian youth leaders, training youth in the concepts and practices of Social Entrepreneurship; introducing youth to leaders in nonprofit and change-making organizations in the US; and learning about US families, culture, geography, and socio-economic realities
YAP consists of three phases:
Phase 1, YAP Fellows participate in monthly workshops. These workshops are based on a 4-module curriculum of community service, leadership development, civic education and participatory democracy;
Phase 2, YAP Fellows participate in a 3-week immersive experience in the U.S., visiting New York City, Washington D.C. and Boston;
Phase 3, YAP Leaders are given both individual and group support and coaching for 7 months to develop projects that will impact their local communities, based on their passions and abilities.
Global Potential (GP) empowers youth and communities to energize each other through education, international service work and cultural exchange. GP is an 18-month transformative after-school + summer program that works with 500 youth a year. The GP program includes 16.5 months of workshops locally New York and 1.5 months of international cultural exchange in the Dominican Republic, Haiti, and Nicaragua.
The Youth Ambassador Senoir Program Coordinator is responsible for implementing the Youth Ambassador Program and report to the Global Potential Program Manager.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Candidate with High school diploma; college student preferred
Responsible for overall management of the YAP Program - Haiti
Ensure that all files and data are organized and inputted appropriately into Salesforce and Google Drive
Coach YAP participants throughout the recruitment and program period
Communicate with and mobilize international partners and participants via phone, Facebook, Hangout, email, etc
Identify new partners and communities in Haiti
Facilitate participatory dialogue between GP/YAP partner communities and local leaders (international), partner NGOs, YAP youth, and the GP/YAP staff team to ensure empowerment of the community and equal and respectful power dynamic.
Whenever possible, seek out Strategic Partnership and Cultivation opportunities with agencies serving youth and foundations/corporations/individuals granting funds to support YAP and GP’s work
Responsible for recruitment, promotion, selection of candidates
Coordination with on the ground staff in Haiti
Coordination with the Haiti’s Youth Council
Coordination with the US Embassy Port-au-Prince
Coordination with the US-based GP Fellows and Leaders to connect them to the YAP
Coordination of the full YAP program in the summer
Coordination of the training and preparation of the YAP youth
Overseeing a variety of educational and community development initiatives
Possible travel to Haiti for follow-up support during the summer
Facilitating experiential education activities for youth
Supporting the coordination of the core program, including, but not limited to, training program staff in areas of youth engagement and workshop facilitation; engaging families and schools, and administrative support such as data migration
Work closely with youth to develop their skills in problem solving, use of computers, ability to communicate and to set and achieve goals.
Qualifications:
Must be able to commit for a minimum of 6 months, 20 hours a week
Must be able to speak and write Haitian Creole or French;
Be familiar with Google Spreadsheets, Google Doc, Google Hangout, and Salesforce (or be willing to receive basic training for use of these systems). Experience with Salesforce is a plus
Detailed oriented, responsible, organized, sociable with excellent communication skills
Ability to communicate with teenagers openly and nonjudgmentally;
Ability to establish a relationship based on equal respect;
Practical problem-solving skills and ability to suggest options and alternatives;
Sensitivity to persons of different educational, economic, cultural or ethnic backgrounds;
Organizational skills;
Ability to prioritize in a demanding environment.
Experience working in Haitian culture is a plus
Management skills with experience managing multiple projects .
Strong interpersonal skills and mentoring skills to work effectively with partners/youth.
Financial management, program monitoring, report writing
Strong writing and public speaking skills and;
- Knowledge of Social Justice, Entrepreneurial work/ activities
