FRIENDS clients are often fortunate enough to find themselves moving on from shelter to living safe, healthy, self-reliant, independent lives, free from abuse.

Many of our clients rely on public transportation in Washington County. The taxi service in the county is unable to transport large quantities of items at a time because they are a shared ride service and must keep space available for other riders. This forces our clients to make numerous, limited-bag trips. While grateful for public transportation, the extra trips can be expensive for clients trying to become more independent.

Volunteers can help solve this problem!

We are in great need of volunteers who are able and willing to transport items:

1. When clients transition from our shelter to their own apartments as a part of our Opening Doors Transitional Living Program. At times, this may also include picking up larger furniture items from Goodwill or St. Vincent De Paul's.

2. When our generous donors offer large furniture items for clients, but have no way of transporting them to the client's home (we do not have the space to store these items at our location). This would include picking the item(s) up from the donor's home and transporting to the client's home. Examples of items that have been offered to us in the past include kitchen tables and chairs, beds and mattresses, living room furniture, etc..

This volunteer position would be on-call (ex: a client needs moving help, we call any volunteers signed up to check for availability).

Thank you for taking the time to look at our opportunities!

**NOTE: No volunteer is expected to transport clients. This opportunity focuses only on transporting large donation items.**
