Are you 55+ and would like to become an Adult Literacy Program Volunteer?
The Adult Literacy Program is based in Brooklyn, N.Y. It offers free, small group and one-on one classes in: Basic Literacy, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), Pre-GED and GED Test Prep. The literacy program provides a supportive environment and designed to help each student reach their specific needs and educational goals.

Mission Statement
AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP in New York City was started in 1966 by the Community Service Society (CSS), an over 170-year-old nonprofit agency. CSS's mission is to identify problems which create a permanent poverty class in New York City, and to advocate the systemic changes required to eliminate such problems. CSS will focus on enabling, empowering and promoting opportunities for poor families and individuals to develop their full potential, to contribute to society, and to realize social, economic, and political opportunities.
Description
AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP in New York City matches adults 55 and older with meaningful volunteer opportunities at New York City nonprofits. With more than 2,300 volunteers, our program is one of the largest senior volunteer programs in the nation. There are over 600 of us which operate nationally and many that do so internationally. We match volunteers on the basis of interests and abilities, community needs, geographic convenience, and experience.
