Greenwich Head Start and Family Centers' School Readiness Program (located at Armstrong Court in Greenwich) are interested in afternoon volunteers (3:30 PM - 5:00 PM) to lead special group activities. Activities may include: dance, yoga, art, reading, introduction to sports, musical instruments, cooking and science. Volunteers would create and implement three to four mini classes (20 - 30 minutes in length) and visit each of our four classrooms. Throughout the day our children have opportunities to explore learning areas, but this volunteer opportunity could lead a teacher-direct/more focused activity. Our teaching staff would support the volunteer and partake in the class with the volunteer leader. Family Centers’ Site Manger will work with the volunteer details regarding space and supplies needed to make the visit a success. The minimum age to volunteer is 15, and those volunteers over the age of 18 are required to complete a background check. All volunteers are asked to schedule a personal interview.

Mission Statement

Family Centers' mission is to empower children, adults, families and communities to realize their potential. Our NAEYC accredited preschools, school-based social work, parental education and adolescent counseling services, give families the resources they need to ensure their children have the bright beginnings they deserve. A comprehensive network of counseling and support services is also instrumental in helping families in crisis work toward a successful resolution. Vocational training, housing resources, counseling and self sufficiency programs also help low-income people and those with long-term mental illness realize their dreams of living independently. Meanwhile, our senior outreach programs encourage lifelong learning, socialization and support.
