Tech Professionals for Pro Bono Tech Pilot Program, Delta.NYC

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: CIVIC HALL LABS INC

  • 6 people are interested

Until now, helping out a local nonprofit on a digital project has been an uphill battle: technologists, designers, data gurus, digital marketers, hackers, and product folks have had to carry the weight of scoping, translation, project management, and navigating an organization’s technical debt just to begin volunteering.

The Delta.NYC prototype is solving for this challenge.

Civic Hall Labs has recruited and scoped projects with a variety of vetted NYC nonprofits. Twenty-five digital professionals will be selected to tackle these opportunities over the course of a four week sprint. Volunteers will self-select based on their skills, availability and interests to complete a pro bono project identified by the partner nonprofit.

Delta.NYC goes beyond just pro bono work: you’re working together. You’ll collaborate with peer professionals in the program, including and beyond your project team, to strategize, process, socialize and expand your knowledge of relevant issues around tech and its impact on society.

The deadline to apply is Wednesday, November 2nd.

Mission Statement

Civic Hall Labs seeks to reimagine civic participation for the 21st century; expand the field of civic tech; and demonstrate a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach to designing and building technology for the public good.

Description

Rapid proliferation of personal and mobile computing has transformed business and our private lives. However, today’s public challenges remain, by comparison, mostly untouched by the digital revolution. Concerted, thoughtful action is required to apply 21st century digital tools to improve the public good while mobilizing new kinds of civic participation.

As the nonprofit R&D arm of Civic Hall, Civic Hall Labs seeks to reimagine civic participation for the 21st century; expand the field of civic tech; and demonstrate a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach to designing and building technology for the public good.

We define civic tech as the use of technology for public good, and we define public good as issues connected to the welfare and well-being of the general public. Distinct from our private lives, the public good deals with shared challenges and opportunities at a societal level.
