CARING ADULTS NEEDED TO MENTOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

The Stamford Public Education Foundation (SPEF) seeks adult volunteers (age 21+) to serve as mentors to Stamford Public Schools HIGH SCHOOL students 2-4 times per month for a minimum one year commitment.

Mentoring sessions are based on the pair's common interests and schedules with support from a dedicated SPEF Program Coordinator. We have 20+ high school students waiting to be matched at any given time. Volunteers must complete an intake interview, application, and training. Volunteers must also consent to a background check.

The Stamford Public Education Foundation (SPEF) is to elevate student success by delivering educational programs and solutions that promote equitable access to quality public education in Stamford.

Description

Founded in 1996, SPEF has remained steadfast in our commitment to foster relationships within the school district, corporate community, and city of Stamford to support and strengthen the public education system with funding, programming, and volunteers. SPEF is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization with a volunteer Board of Directors comprised of local residents, professionals, and community members who assist in building these relationships and ensure our programs and services meet the needs of Stamford public school students and families.

Our non-profit agency serves the richly diverse population of students and families in Stamford’s 21 public schools. As reported in the district’s most recent annual report, 45% of its student identify as Hispanic, 30% as White, 15% as Black, 7% as Asian, and 3% as other. Of these 16,500 students, 59% are economically disadvantaged, with 71 languages spoken at home. 14% are English Language Learners.
