Habitat Store UpCycle Volunteer

ORGANIZATION: Habitat for Humanity ReStore

Are you looking to put your artistic skills to use by creating something new out of something old, worn out, or beat up?

The Clark County Habitat for Humanity Store in Vancouver has a great volunteer opportunity for someone who is interested in "UpCyling!" In the simplest of terms, to "UpCycle" is to reuse (discarded objects or material) in such a way as to create a product of a higher quality or value than the original.

We get many donations that, unfortunately, tend not to sell as quickly as we'd like, and we think that turning something old and worn into something new and amazing would help us not only sell that item, but give our customers a reason to "get creative" with their purchases!

If this sounds like something you would be interested in, please e-mail Andrew at andrew@pdxrestore.org. Tell us why this volunteer position would fit you and what skills/experiences you would bring! This is an ongoing opportunity for multiple individuals!

(All volunteers are required to attend a one hour orientation at the Store, time and date to be determined)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Habitat for Humanity ReStore accepts donated new and used building materials, furniture, appliances, lighting fixtures and other home goods, and we sell them in our stores to raise money for Habitat home-building projects.

Our stores in Portland, Beaverton and Vancouver support three Habitat affiliates: Portland/Metro East, Willamette West, and Evergreen. This past year we raised enough money to build 14 Habitat homes for low-income families.

The ReStore is also big into reuse, diverting over 5,200 tons of reusable materials from landfills last year--and we're working to improve that number. Our shoppers are some of the most creative on the planet. We Love how they re-think, re-imagine and re-invent with used materials.

What is The ReStore? We are the home improvement outlet where you'll discover something new (and used) every day.
