Purpose: The position of Workroom Assistant is to provide support to UF/IFAS Center for Aquatic and Invasive Plants Information office in assembling and disseminating materials, resources and information relative to the harmful impacts some non-native, invasive plants are having on our natural areas and neighborhoods.
Location: UF/IFAS Center for Aquatic Plants, 7922 NW 23 rd Street, Gainesville, FL 32653. Volunteer must have own transportation; bus service is not available to location.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with inventory and storage room organization
- Assembling materials and resources
- Scanning and laminating documents
- Light data entry
- Various duties as required
Requirements:
- Ability to lift 30 pounds
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Valid Florida Driver’s License required to drive State vehicle
- Minimum 4 hour shift/1 day per week

Support: Training for this position will be provided.

The Florida Invasive Plant Education Initiative was created to provide educators with the information and resources needed to teach students about the harmful impacts some non-native, invasive plants are having on our natural areas and neighborhoods. Our ultimate goal is for today’s youth to draw on this knowledge as they mature into responsible environmental stewards.
Description
The UF/IFAS Center for Aquatic and Invasive Plants is a multidisciplinary research, teaching and extension unit directed to develop environmentally sound techniques for the management of aquatic and natural area weed species and to coordinate aquatic plant research activities within the State of Florida. The Center was established in 1978 by the Florida legislature. Directed by Dr. William Haller , the Center utilizes expertise from many departments within UF/IFAS and its Agricultural Research and Education Centers throughout Florida.
