Strong volunteers, their ability to introduce youth to their experiences, help keep them safe and even help find resources that contribute to the youth expanded learning experience, are a critical need for Woodcraft Rangers. The volunteers could support at any of our 68 schools located throughout the Grater Los Angeles area or at our main office. Go to www.woodcraftrangers.org to see out locations.

Whether you have a few hours a day, or a few hours a year, your help is desired. Mentors and guest instructors, assistance at the school sites, assistance at special events and in our offices is all welcomed. Since Woodcraft Rangers listens to students passions and creates programming based on that feedback, expertice and examples of career opportunities are needed for everything from Science and Computer programming to sports, the arts, music and dance.

Since 1922, Woodcraft Rangers has been recognized as one of the most innovative and successful providers of Youth Development programs in the Greater Los Angeles area. Woodcraft Rangers’ expanded learning program (NVISION) is designed to be customizable and is appropriate for elementary, middle and high school students. The current NVISION expanded learning program model began with seed funding from the James Irvine Foundation in 1991. It has served over 1.1 million youth, and their families, since its inception and now serves over 14,000 students annually at more than 68 elementary, middle and high schools as well as provides programming to several city and county parks and recreation facilities. Summer Learning and Summer Camps are part of our legacy and are very active as well.

Woodcraft Rangers afterschool programs meet on school campuses five days a week, immediately after dismissal (usually 3:00 pm) until 6:00 pm and are an effective way to keep children safe and supervised, while they take advantage of our high quality expanded learning experiences. Independent research over the last eight years shows that youth we serve do better in school, stay out of trouble and graduate from high school at a much higher rate (81.9% graduation rate compared to 61.6% in the LAUSD general student population). Our dosage rate (how long students stay in our programs on consecutive days) is 250% higher than our peers, according to the evaluation firm utilized by our LAUSD client.

Woodcraft Rangers engages youth with customized programming, and our innovative approach to infusing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) into all of our club activities (music, fine arts, dance, fitness and sports, robotics, 3D printing etc.) sets us apart from our competition and our students’ academic success shows the positive impact Woodcraft Rangers makes year after year.
