Whether you're interested in a smaller native planting or want to transform your whole yard into a force for clean water, this workshop can help jumpstart your spring planning. We'll also touch on practices to make your yard (and sidewalks) river-friendlier this winter.

- ways to provide sidewalk traction in winter, possibly eliminating or reducing salt runoff,
- what needs to be picked up or cleaned from yards in winter to reduce pollution,
- landscaping with native plant species,

Friends of the Mississippi River is proud to work with roughly 3,000 volunteers annually.
We keep volunteering simple, fun and satisfying -- there are no applications, and you can sign up for one event or several. We list events especially in need of volunteers here on VolunteerMatch.com, but maintain a full calendar of 60+ events a year at www.fmr.org/events.
Our project work includes conservation and restoration of natural areas and habitat, education on watershed protection issues, and organizing activities that connect the public to the Mississippi River.
