The World Is Fun (TWIF) - is not your grandparents' charitable club. We're a 100% volunteer-run organization here to make volunteering a fun, social experience for Seattle people, businesses and charities. We seek to banish the ol' bake sale stereotype and get you excited about giving back to your community by broadening the scope of volunteerism and revamping existing charitable programs. Our mission is to remind you that volunteering is not a chore -- it makes the world fun.
Are you a natural leader? Do you want to give back to the community while strengthening your resume? Are you ready to take your volunteering to the next level but don't know where to start? Look no further, we are introducing the TWIF Sherpa training.
What's a Sherpa, you ask? Well, on the trail, the Sherpa is the first to welcome travelers, takes the lead in guiding people, and always has answers to crucial questions. Climbing a mountain may not be your thing, but volunteers--especially first timers--often need the same support as those on an adventure.
That is why TWIF has created our Sherpa training. During this sixth month program, you'll learn the basics of volunteer management, problem-solving, working professionally with nonprofits, storytelling for a cause, and how to engage the community so people keep coming back!
And it isn't all just reading, we send you out monthly to apply what you've learned at a volunteer event of your choice and to test your talking points at some of our social recruitment events. Along the way, you'll have the full support of our Volunteer Coordination team and staff. At the end, you will be certified to lead (as a Sherpa) TWIF events, get a shiny certificate for your LinkedIn, and have all the knowledge we've learned over years of leading successful events to teach you how to be an awesome leader in all situations.
This 6 month program requires a commitment of 8-10 flexible hours per month. This includes one evening meeting, online coursework, and one volunteer event (of your choice) each month.
Are you ready to take your volunteering to Sherpa level? Sherpas should possess the following characteristics:
A natural born leader
Excellent at starting conversations with strangers
Is ready to "bring it" when faced with challenges
Exhibits tact and proper judgment under pressure and in sensitive situations
TWIF covers the cost of the Sherpa Training Program but classes are limited in size and candidates must officially apply. Please mention the starting date you are most interested in and why you want to be a Sherpa in your cover letter.
