Camp Independence

We are looking for camp counselors for Camp Independence. Camp Independence is held at Camp Bond in Tishomingo, OK. for Oklahoma children ages 7 to 17 who are affected with hemophilia and other bleeding disorders. Affected children can live a relatively normal life with proper treatment. Treatment, however, can be extremely expensive, costing $100,00-$300,000 per year.

We expect approximately 100 campers. We typically have a minimum of 2 counselors per cabin. Cabins typically range from 6-10 campers. All of our camp directors and counselors are volunteers, many of whom who had no prior knowledge of hemophilia and bleeding disorders.

Campers engage in a wide variety of normal camping experiences at Camp Independence. Activities include: fishing, swimming, arts&crafts, archery, contests, team building and sports. We strive to make camp a fun-filled, rewarding experience, in line with our camp Motto; "Play Hard, Play Smart, Be Awesome".

An overall theme and continuing story line are incorporated in activities at camp to highlight personal and social responsibility. Campers also how to treat and manage their disease and become self-sufficient while at camp. We have a full-time medical staff on site at camp to accomplish this task.

This camp is often the first time a child meets someone with a similar disease. Many life-long friendships have had their beginnings at camp.

Volunteering at Camp Bond is a fun-filled and rewarding experience. Many of our committee members and board members first became involved with our foundation as volunteer counselors at camp.
