We are looking for a group of 15-40 volunteers to prepare for the installation of a gravel bed nursery in front of the Science Museum of Minnesota. Your group will be helping out with the initial preparation of the bed which will involve removing existing plants, digging out the soil, and replacing it with gravel. Gravel beds provide storage for tree seedlings and help encourage healthy root growth so the trees have a greater chance of surviving once they are planted in their forever home. Increasing the hardiness of urban trees is one way we can adapt to our changing climate and provide water quality benefits for the river. The nursery we install at the museum will provide a demonstration of this awesome technique for other municipalities and will also be a great educational tool. The trees we put in the bed will eventually be planted along the river in St. Paul.
