Since 1999, the aim of Goodwill's BookWorks program has been to get books into the hands and homes of children from disadvantaged backgrounds. In 2016, BookWorks services distributed 72,193 books to nearly 30,000 children in 7 counties in the Goodwill-Suncoast area!
Elementary Book Drop was developed to expand on the preschool reading program, in an effort to further instill a love of reading as kids moved past Kindergarten. Title 1 and/or under-performing elementary schools with D/F grades are targeted, and volunteers deliver bundles of gently-loved books for the 1st and 2nd graders.
Opportunities for volunteers to help with our Elementary Book Drop initiative exist in Marion, Hernando, Sumter, Hillsborough, Pasco, Polk, Pinellas, and Highlands counties.
All you need is a car and a willingness to deliver books during school hours. We'll set it up and give you the contact info. You could be helping kids develop a lifelong love of books!

Description
Over 65 Years of Helping People!
Goodwill-Suncoast was founded in October 1954 in downtown St. Petersburg. We began by assisting a handful of people with disabilities to gain work skills and paychecks. Now we help thousands of people overcome a variety of barriers to employment through training and employment programs, low-cost apartment buildings for seniors and people with disabilities, work activities centers for adults with developmental disabilities, as well as rehabilitative community corrections programs. We have a variety or programs that support our community and contribute to community conservation through recycling. Goodwill-Suncoast operates 20 retail stores and three outlet stores to support all of our services and programs. We have volunteer opportunities available in many of our program areas.
