This is a very heavy project since oyster domes weigh over 150 pounds each. Installation will involve unloading the domes from a trailer to a barge. We'll have a crane to unload the domes from the barge to be placed on the shoreline, but we may need help moving the domes in the water.

Oysters need to attach to a hard structure to grow into adults and the rough texture of the domes makes it easier for oysters to grow. Oyster communities help stabilize shorelines, provide hard bottom habitats for fish and wildlife resources and promote water quality improvements in the Tampa Bay ecosystem.

This comprehensive ecosystem restoration plan will slow erosion and provide invaluable habitat and food source for wildlife.

Mission Statement

Tampa Bay Watch, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit stewardship program dedicated exclusively to the protection and restoration of the marine and wetland environments of the Tampa Bay estuary through scientific and educational programs.

Description

Founded in 1993, we perform a variety of habitat restoration and protection activities throughout the year utilizing thousands of volunteers to help the bay recover from its environmental threats. Individuals of all ages from families, community groups, and schools participate in native grass plantings, oyster bar construction, coastal cleanups, and wildlife protection each year demonstrating environmental stewardship in its purest form. The efforts of Tampa Bay Watch to restore and protect the bay's habitat through stewardship provide effective long-term improvements to the bay and empower our community to counteract local environmental problems. Learning how to achieve and maintain a healthy environment is a legacy that will influence our children and future generations for years to come.
