Our program is in need of Sunday volunteers to help be available in case the women in our program need tutoring--they are in a variety of basic college courses, and will likely need help with writing, reading comprehension, some light math, and maybe a few additional courses. No specific expertise required, just patience and a strong ability to help coach women in reading and writing skills. Preferred that we can have you each month consistently, but if you can't, we'll take you for one or two!

Mission Statement

The Jeremiah Program helps low-income single mothers and their children transition from poverty to prosperity, two generations at a time.

Description

Jeremiah Program offers one of the nation’s most successful strategies for transforming families from poverty to prosperity two generations at a time. Jeremiah prepares determined single mothers to excel in the workforce, readies their children to succeed in school, and reduces generational dependence on public assistance.

Jeremiah’s proven, holistic approach begins with establishing a supportive community for determined single mothers to pursue a career-track college education. Through a combination of quality early childhood education, a safe and affordable place to live, and empowerment and life skills training, their families are stabilized and able to find a path out of poverty.

Jeremiah Program is headquartered in Minneapolis. The organization has two fully operational sites-in Minneapolis and St. Paul-that serve 300 women and children annually. Housing for four families opened in Austin, TX, in fall 2013, and ground will be broken in late 2015 on an expanded campus to serve 35 families. In addition, Jeremiah is conducting pilot programs with Endicott College in Boston, and leaders in Fargo, ND-Moorhead, MN, are working to establish a campus in their community.
