Rouge Frog & Toad Survey Training Workshop

Friends of the Rouge is looking for people who live within the Rouge River Watershed who would like to survey their neighborhood for frogs and toads. The survey involves attending a two hour training workshop, learning the breeding calls, then surveying in the evening several times a month March through June. Surveys are done by listening and determining what species are calling. Survey areas are quarter square mile blocks that contain wetlands. Families, seniors, students, etc. are encouraged to participate, children are welcome when accompanied by a participating adult.

This is part of a long term study tracking calling amphibians as indicators of wetland quality.

Volunteers must attend ONE training session:

Sat Feb. 17, 2018 10am-12pm Canton Summit on the Park

Sat. March 10, 2018 10am-12pm Farmington Hills Council Chambers

Sat. March 17, 2018 10am-12pm Livonia Civic Center Library

Description

Friends of the Rouge is an environmental non-profit organization that has been promoting stewardship of the Rouge River watershed for over 15 years. We run a large environmental education program for schools within the Rouge watershed. We also coordinate a variety of projects for volunteers, adult and youth, individuals and groups. These activities include monitoring environmental quality, neighborhood-based environmental education and pollution prevention, stream cleanups and many other environmental restoration/preservation activities.
