Corporate Day

Business and Interactive Technology Learning Community

Hamilton High School

What is corporate day?

Corporate Day is an event sponsored by BIT every 6-8 weeks. It is our opportunity to expose our students to various members of the business community by inviting professionals into the classrooms. Students will have the opportunity to learn about different professions and gain a clear understanding of the type of education and training necessary to pursue such careers. This exchange of ideas will also give professionals a clear perspective of the types of challenges today’s youth encounter as they aim to establish career goals.

How does the day work?

The agenda for the day is pretty simple. The event is scheduled from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. We are asking participants to visit about 4 classrooms for 45 minutes each. There will be a short break, after the first class, for a 20 minute "meet and greet." We are asking participants to interact with students and answer any individual questions the students may have.

*In an effort to engage students, we are asking them to dress in professional attire!!!!

What should you talk about?

Participants should explain what they do for a living, what steps they took to prepare themselves for their position, and why they enjoy it. Speakers should limit their discussion to about 10-15 minutes and then let the students ask questions. The use of videos or any other hands-on material is always welcome.

What you should avoid?

Avoid using vocabulary associated with your industry that students may not understand. But at the same time, be careful to not to treat them like grade school students. For example, when beginning a discussion about money market funds, ask questions like, "Who has heard of a money market account?" "Can someone explain what it is?" Avoid talking too long - let the students take the discussion where it needs to go (within reason). Just be very candid with the students and you will be fine.

The Mission of the California Council on Economic Education (CCEE) is to be the leading provider of economic and financial literacy training and resources to California's schools, empowering teachers and students and resulting in increased financial capability of all Californians.

Description

The CCEE solution is to better prepare students for life by helping to educate them on economic principles, the economy and personal finance. How do we do that? We train teachers to better train their students and we also provide education to parents and students directly to improve their success the workforce. We provide training through workshops, conferences, webinars and free educational materials, accessible online.

The adult lives of today's students will be full of choices. They will be opening bank accounts, saving and borrowing money, buying homes, going to college, investing and insuring their assets. At CCEE, we want to help give our students the tools they need to make informed financial decisions and ultimately be financially successful.
