Volunteer Events
Volunteering at the Torpedo Factory Art Center is a wonderful way to become more involved in the arts community while serving as a vital resource for sustaining the Art Center’s day-to-day operations. Each year, volunteers of all ages bring their skills, perspectives, and talents to enhance the experience of visitors. Some volunteers maintain a regular schedule each week to work on ongoing projects, while others prefer helping out as needed with specific events or activities. Through their efforts, the Torpedo Factory Art Center is able to provide exceptional programs and events that reach more than a half million visitors annually.

An Alexandria tradition for more than 20 years, Art Safari is a day of hands-on craft activities for kids and families.

The Torpedo Factory Art Center needs enthusiastic volunteers to help set up, break down, run the welcome tables, and to help artists run the different craft tables!

Volunteer Requirements

  • Volunteers must be good with young children and crowds
  • Volunteers under the age of 18 will not be accepted for this volunteer opportunity without written parental consent or school credit approval
  • Volunteers who need written approval for school or work must give notice prior to the event
  • No court ordered volunteers will be accepted for this volunteer opportunity
  • Any volunteers with special needs must notify the organizer in advance

Shift include: Welcome Desk, Coloring Station, Painting Station, Paper Mache Station, Printmaking Station, Floater (helping out where needed)

Volunteer shifts times:

Welcome Desk- 12pm - 5pm

Art Activity Shift 1- 11:30am - 3pm*
Art Activity Shift 2- 2:00pm - 5:30pm*

Description

Founded in 1974 in an old munitions plant, the Torpedo Factory Art Center is home to the largest number of publicly accessible working artist studios in the U.S.

Just south of Washington, D.C., the Torpedo Factory Art Center overlooks the Potomac River in the Old Town section of Alexandria, Va. Each year, more than a half million national and international visitors meet and interact with more than 160 resident artists in 82 working studios and six galleries.
