Thank you to all who were involved with our 5K race in 2014 and 2015. Your support inspired us: and with your help, we’re making this year’s 5K event a rallying point for staff, supporters, and clients who want to end homelessness forever.

With the farmer’s almanac projecting a high of 61°, we’ll continue this new tradition with the Health Care for the Homeless Rock Your Socks 5K on November 5!

Volunteers power this event through a variety of roles:

  • Event Setup
  • Volunteer Greeter
  • Registration
  • Race Marshal
  • Cheer & Water Station
  • Cleanup

Event Setup Volunteer

This role will be responsible for setting up tables, banners, signs, entertainment areas, and water stations throughout the race event area. Event Setup Volunteers should be willing and able to be physically active during the beginning of the event. Event setup volunteers will then help direct participants to designated parking areas.

  • Number of volunteers needed: 5
  • Arrival time: 7:00am [estimated end: 9:30am]

Volunteer Greeter

This role will assist the staff Volunteer Coordinator with directing, registering, and supervising volunteers throughout the race event area. Volunteer Greeters will provide a universal orientation to all volunteers and will be their initial point of contact.

  • Number of volunteers needed: 2
  • Arrival time: 7:15am [estimated end: 8:15am]

Registration Volunteer

This role will greet race participants, fulfill limited same day registrations, and connect participants with their packets. Registration Volunteers will collaborate with a staff member to ensure a consistent registration process.

  • Number of volunteers needed: 6
  • Arrival time: 7:30am [estimated end: 9:30am]

Race Marshal Volunteer

This roleensures that race participants have a safe and informed experience. Race Marshals will be located at strategic locations throughout the course and will direct participants throughout the track, pause vehicle traffic, cheer participants, and answer general questions about race activities.

  • Number of volunteers needed: 15
  • Arrival time: 7:45am [estimated end: 10:30am]

Cheer & Water Station Volunteer

This role will hydrate race participants at two locations on the track. Cheer & Water Station Volunteers will encourage participants with positive energy, active cheers, and will hand out of paper cups of waters. Duties include refilling paper water cups, offering cups to participants, encouraging cheers, and answering general questions about race activities

  • Number of volunteers needed: 10
  • Arrival time: 8:00am [estimated end: 10:15am]

Cleanup Volunteers

This role will be responsible for breaking down tables, banners, signs, entertainment areas, and water stations throughout the race event area. Clean Up Volunteers should be willing and able to be physically active during the beginning of the event.

  • Number of volunteers needed: 5
  • Arrival time: 10:30am (Cleanup Volunteers are invited to enjoy the post-event activities as early as 10 a.m.)
