September 24th is National Public Lands Day and we are going to celebrate with a bang! We will show our appreciation for public land by busting out a couple days of construction work on the mountaintop section of the new Dixon Trail, which will serve as the connection between the trail system of Cheyenne Mountain State Park at the foot of the mountain and the Top of the Mountain which will become accessible public land once the trail is complete! We will also be celebrating our wonderful RMFI volunteers by hosting a Volunteer Appreciation Dinner at camp on Saturday night as well as providing all other meals for the duration of the weekend. Please j oin us for a fun and rewarding volunteer weekend on top of Cheyenne Mountain!

Cheyenne Mountain State Park is one of the newest additions to the State Park system and is uniquely situated in a transitional zone between the Great Plains grassland and the forested Front Range Mountains. The park is a popular location for hiking, biking, wildlife viewing, and camping just outside the city limits of Colorado Springs. Last year, RMFI and volunteers completed the construction of the highly anticipated Top of the Mountain (TOM) trail. The TOM Trail is approximately 3.6 miles of 'extremely rugged’ corridor offering stunning views of the Pikes Peak region. With the help of volunteers, this year we have begun constructing the Dixon Trail from the top of the mountain down (to eventually meet up with the efforts of other trail crews building from the State Park up) so that access to the TOM can be reached from the State Park's existing trail system. The National Public Lands Day Volunteer Weekend will provide YOU the opportunity to get involved as we continue this important work.
